Blue70's alternative to renting
A rental suit has been worn by many people, stretched by their bodies, and cared for in ways you can't verify. A Blue70 test swim lets you evaluate the exact suit, in your size, before your 30-day return window ends. That's more useful than renting a wetsuit that may not match the model you're considering.
Blue70's returns policy allows you to swim in a wetsuit and still return or exchange it, as long as the suit comes back clean, dry, unmodified, and with tags and accessories intact. You have 30 days from the ship date, not from when you first put the suit on. If you want to lower the cost of a return label, you can add returns coverage at checkout for $3.28. Otherwise you pay the return label. The key point: taking a swim won't affect your ability to get a refund.
This policy solves the rental question directly. You can purchase a suit, test it in open water or a pool, and if the fit or feel is wrong, send it back. You don't need to track down a rental program.
What to check on a test swim
A suit that fits well will feel snug on dry land and more comfortable once you're in the water. That dry-land snugness is normal. Neoprene relaxes slightly when wet and when your body position levels out.
Put the suit on slowly, using the pads of your fingers, not your nails. A rushed donning job causes the shoulder fatigue people blame on the suit.
During your test swim, pay attention to four things.
- Shoulder freedom. Swim 300 to 500 meters of relaxed freestyle, then some shorter paced efforts. If you feel shoulder restriction, the suit may be too small or not properly hiked up into your armpits.
- Neckline comfort. The Fusion and women's Femme Fit designs use a lower neckline to reduce chafing. You should notice the neck seal without feeling strangled. If you can't swallow or turn your head, the size is wrong.
- Water exchange. A small amount of water enters a wetsuit. That's how it works. But you shouldn't feel a constant flood or a suit filling with water. Pay attention to the zipper seal and the ankles and wrists.
- Body position and kick. A swim-specific suit supports your hips and legs. You may notice your kick feels lighter and your legs sit higher. That's the design doing its job. Beginners often notice the change more than experienced swimmers.
Matching the model before you test
Renting often starts with whatever suits are available. When you test a Blue70 suit, you choose the model that fits your training week and race calendar.
- For a first sprint or Olympic-distance race, the Sprint or Fusion gives you a reliable starting point. The Sprint is the entry-level option. The Fusion has a redesigned lower neckline and works for shorter, frequent swims.
- If you swim open water once a week or more, the Reaction holds up better to frequent use than the race-day Helix. The Helix is the race-day suit: thin, flexible neoprene in the arms and shoulders, built for performance. It isn't the suit to test if you plan to train in it every weekend.
- For colder water below roughly 56 to 58°F, the Thermal Reaction with its synthetic wool jersey lining adds thermal protection designed for cold water. Above roughly 70 to 72°F, a full suit can run warm over longer swims, so a sleeveless model may be the better test.
Try before you swim, if you can

If the test swim shows the suit doesn't fit
