A blueseventy wetsuit should feel snug on dry land and more comfortable in the water. That phrase gives you a way to test fit before you commit. Do a careful land check first, then take the suit for a swim under the test swim return policy. You are not stuck with a suit that passes the mirror test but fails at the 400-meter mark.
Start with the right size, not a guess
Use the blueseventy size charts, which are built around height and weight ranges. Enter your current measurements, not a target you plan to hit in eight weeks. If you are between sizes, lean toward the size that matches your chest and torso. A wetsuit works by holding a thin layer of water close to your body, which your body then warms. A suit cut too large lets that layer shift and the panels move. Too small, and the neoprene restricts your reach.
Women's wetsuits use the Femme Fit pattern. It changes the bust, torso, wrists, and ankles, lowers the neckline, and extends the zipper so entry and exit take less effort. If you have fought unisex cuts before, start with the women's size chart and check the Femme Fit measurements first.
Put the suit on before you judge it
Most fit complaints start with donning errors. Roll the legs up from the ankle, work the suit up in small sections, and use the pads of your fingers. The blueseventy warranty does not cover fingernail punctures, so keep your nails off the neoprene. Pull the legs high into the crotch first, then work the torso up the lower back. Only after the torso sits high should you pull the shoulders into place and close the zipper.
A shoulder that feels tight before the suit is fully raised is not a true fit verdict. Once the material sits high in the armpit and the neckline is positioned, the range of motion often improves. If you skip this step, you can misread a correct fit as too small.
Land checks
Run these checks in order after the zipper is closed:
- Legs and crotch sit high, with no rolls of neoprene at the ankle or knee.
- The lower back panel lies flat against your spine when you bend forward slightly. A large gap there means the suit is too long or the torso panel has not been pulled up enough.
- The neckline contacts skin all the way around without pinching or standing off. The 2021 Fusion redesign uses a lower-sitting neckline for comfort without losing the seal.
- The shoulder material stays put when you make slow arm circles, reach overhead, and rotate as in a freestyle stroke. If you feel the suit yank your shoulders down or restrict your breathing at the top of the reach, note where it pulls before you decide to size up.
Move, then swim
After the mirror checks, imitate the stroke for a minute. Reach long with one arm while rotating your torso. Look back as if sighting. The lower back should not open up, and the shoulder should not drag against your skin. A suit that looks correct while you stand still can still feel wrong after 800 meters of rotation. You catch the obvious problems on land. The water test catches the rest.
blueseventy allows a test swim on wetsuits. You can swim in the suit and still return or exchange it within 30 days of the ship date, provided it comes back clean, dry, unmodified, and with tags and accessories attached. In the water, neoprene softens, and the suit should feel less restrictive than it did in your living room. Swim freestyle normally, rotate to breathe, and check whether your legs sit higher with less kick. If the neck chafes after 20 minutes or the shoulders fight you on every breath, that is useful information.
When the answer is a different size
Exchange the suit if any of these happen after a correct donning and a short swim: the neck presses, the lower back billows or folds, the legs creep down, or the shoulder material restricts your reach. A suit that feels snug on land and then comfortable in the water is usually the right call. If it still feels loose in the torso after the water test, go down a size. If it still pulls across the chest and shoulders, go up or choose a suit with more flexible shoulder and arm panels.
Return specifics
Start the exchange through the returns portal on the blueseventy site. If you did not add the $3.28 returns coverage at checkout, you pay the return label. Returns outside the portal may incur a 10% restocking fee. Keep the suit clean and dry after the swim, and do not alter it. The original tags and accessories stay with the suit.
You can also try suits on in a local shop, but the land check plus test swim works when that is not an option. Start with the fit guide at blueseventy.com/pages/fitting-wearguide, then take the suit for a swim.
