We're proud to announce a sponsorship with SwimRun USA, making us the official swim partner of the 2018 races. Known as the most prominent swimrun event producer in North America, SwimRun USA's Casco Bay Islands event in Portland, Maine will celebrate its third running this August. A second event in blueseventy’s backyard of Seattle has been added to the series later this year. In recent years, swimrun has become one of the fastest growing endurance sports in Europe and is starting to take hold here in the USA.
The new event will take place on Orcas Island, the largest of the San Juan Islands in Washington state. With an endless array of trails through Moran State Park, panoramic views from atop Mt. Constitution and crystal clear mountain lakes serving as swim crossings, the course will test each and every team to its core. The Long Course distance will feature 18 miles of trail running and 2.5 miles of swimming broken up over 12 different sections.

Remaining true to the originators of the ÖTILLÖ, SwimRun USA events offer a two-person team format. Not a relay, teammates must race the entire course together. Rules permit swim aids such as hand paddles, pull buoys, wetsuits and even swim fins. Certain safety gear is mandated by race rules, and hydration and race fuel can be carried too, but what one starts with, so too must they finish. Changing from trail shoes to swim fins, or tending to awkward gear can chew up valuable time. Having the right teammate and equipment can make all the difference. New in 2018, SwimRun USA is offering a Solo category in the Short Course format, ideal for those coming from a single-sport background who want to experience this exciting new sport.
