The first pointzero3 swimskins landed in Kona 2 days before the biggest and most prestigious triathlon event in the world – the 2006 Ford Ironman World Championship.
Sponsored athletes flocked to the water that pre-race morning to pick up the latest and greatest blueseventy edition…the pointzero3 swimskin. blueseventy had produced a world first – a swim skin made out of rubber that neither floated nor sank! It was claimed to be faster than anything worn in a non-wetsuit legal swim before…
The race day that year shook up triathlon forever. The pointzero3 was chosen to be worn by some of the best in the world. The results of these athletes spoke for themselves;
One thing to note that day, was Stadler’s swim performance. Previously the swim wasn’t ever his strongest leg, but in 2006, he swam a PR by minutes, he exited with the leaders and was well ahead on the bike after 5 miles. He went on to win the race by almost 2 minutes and credited his win partly to the swim. At the Awards Ceremony during his winning speech he stated “wow that blueseventy swimskin was fast!”. From then on, blueseventy never looked back.
One year on, at the same race, blueseventy were dealing with a pointzero3 sell-out. During the week leading up to the race in Kona, males were buying female sizes in order not to miss out on a pointzero3.
Chris McCormack, a favourite for the race, and later crowned 2007 Champion was quoted as publicly saying, “if you do not wear a swim skin on race day, you will be at a definite disadvantage”. Not surprisingly, McCormack chose to wear a pointzero3 on his way to his first World Ironman Championship title.
However, paralleled with the huge amount of positive feedback prior to the race, scandal was amounting; was the WTC going to ban the swimskins? There were many rumours circulating this possibility of a ban that were at once quashed after it was released that Charlie Crawford, of USAT, had deemed the pointzero3 to be USAT legal. The pointzero3 was all OK to be worn during the 2007 Ford Ironman World Champsionship.
The start line of the swim for the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship was indeed a different sight from previous years. One-half of all competitors chose to wear a swim skin. 75% of those competitors were wearing a blueseventy pointzero3. Both male and female winners also chose to wear the pointzero3.
Not since the introduction of aerobars in the 1980’s had triathlon been changed on such an extraordinary scale. blueseventy were clearly onto something and had led the push. Competing brands came up with their own swimskin, but blueseventy had something on the radar that would propel the pointzero3 into the pure open water swimming market– the pointzero3 was going up for FINA approval.
The FINA approval came days after the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championships. A blueseventy representative immediately flew to Cancun, Mexico to officially introduce the pointzero3 to open water swimming competitors at the FINA World Cup Open Water Swim Series. Amazed at the sight of the pointzero3 a few of these world class swimmers swam in the swimskin for the first time during this 10km race!
To date the pointzero3 is getting lots of media attention, requests for sponsorship are piling up and blueseventy are receiving many enquiries regarding using the pointzero3 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The pointzero3 is an innovative blueseventy product that is expected to break world records and simply enhance an athlete to strive to be the best they can. What’s your choice?
