Hurst emotional after dramatic finish

5 May 2008

Amid all the hype around his higher profile team mate Grant Hackett, who finished in 15th position and was subsequently disqualified, Hurst was visibly overwhelmed when he secured his ticket to Beijing on the Australian open water swimming team.

With recent successes and media attention for other high-tech swim skins in the pool, the blueseventy nero 10km suit has been the preferred choice amongst open water swimmers at this years 10km event at the World Championships, with a third of all competitors on the start line wearing the blueseventy suit.  The blueseventy nero 10km suit is the only specifically designed open water suit on the market.

Hurst was one of many athletes in the field who chose to wear a blueseventy nero 10km suit, having to apply to his national federation to be allowed to wear his preferred blueseventy swim skin as it conflicted with the teams existing sponsor.  Holland’s, Maarten Van Der Weijden in 4th place and the Italian, Cleri, in 6th also wore the blueseventy nero 10km swim skin.

Geoff Matthews, blueseventy’s representative at the event, commented, ‘we were absolutely the dominant brand today and helped several swimmers make it to the Olympics.  We are delighted that swimmers are choosing to wear our suit, we’ve even worked with athletes and federations to produce non branded samples, in order to help avoid potential conflict and enable athletes to fit in with their national federations.’

The 2008 Open Water Swimming World Championships continues this week with the men’s and women’s 5km and 25km events taking place on Tuesday and Thursday.

New Zealand’s leading open water swimmer, Kane Radford, has been involved in the testing and development of the suit, wearing it to recent victories in the 5km and 10km Australian U18 Age Group titles.  Radford was controversially omitted from selection to compete for New Zealand at the championships.

The nero 10k suit has been developed from the groundbreaking technology used in blueseventy’s triathlon swimsuit, the pointzero3 which was the most popular suit worn in the recent Hawaii Ironman World Championships, including by both Champions.
