Pilar joins Bulgarian Petar Stoychev wearing blueseventy at the front of open water swimming packs around the world. She and Stoychev were victorious in the 16km event at the fourth leg of the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix 2010, on April 17, at Sumidero Canyon, in Chiapas, the southernmost state of Mexico. On Sunday (27 June) she was 2nd in Capri-Napoli, Italy. She narrowly lost out on victory to local swimmer, Alessandra Romiti, by just eight seconds over 36km of swimming.

Pilar also won the Hernandarias-Parana FINA World Cup event in February, which is the longest swimming race in the world at 88km. She completed it in a new record time of 8 hours 34 minutes and 22 seconds.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Dean Jackson of blueseventy said: “We’re working with some inspirational athletes at the moment, and are delighted to welcome Pilar Geijo to our team. She’s had some great results this year and her input can only help strengthen the development of our bespoke open water swimwear.

“blueseventy is currently the only manufacturer making suits specifically for open water swimmers. It’s a sport that we are completely immersed in, and we’re genuinely pleased to be working with Pilar, who is as tough as they come in the sport.”

The FINA Open Water Grand Prix continues with five remaining events this year, the next being at Lac St Jean in Canada on 31 July. The season finishes in Dubai on 27 October.
